HI-VIS WARNING GARMENTS

are Tested in accordance with the European directive for PPE (89/686/EEC) for intermediate design, and tested to EN471:2003 for high visibility.

Description:

High visibility warning clothing aimed to signal the presence of the wearer visually in daylight as well as under illumination by lights at night.

Specifications:

High visibility clothing is categorised into 3 classes. Each class requires for these garments to have a minimal surface area for the background fluorescent material and the retro-reflective material (silver or yellow) or the combined material is according to the table below.

Class 3: This is the highest level of visibility. The minimum amount of background material visible must exceed 0.80m² and the minimum amount of retro-reflective tape used is 0.2m². (4meters of 50mm wide retro-reflective tape.) This is achieved by long sleeved Jackets, coveralls and jacket-trouser suits.

Class 2: This is the intermediate level of visibility. The minimum amount of background material visible must exceed 0.50m² and the minimum amount of retro-reflective tape used is 0.13m². (2.6meters of 50mm wide retro-reflective tape.) This is achieved by waist coats and Jackets without retro-reflective tape on the sleeves.

Class 1: This is the lowest level of visibility. The minimum amount of background material visible must exceed 0.14m² and the minimum amount of retro-reflective tape used is 0.10m². (2meters of 50mm wide retro-reflective tape.) This is achieved by trousers, jackets, or vests.

Retro-reflective Material Specification (Y):

The highest class retro-reflective material is class 2. To conform to EN471:2003 standard, it is tested for abrasion resistance, flexing, folding at cold temperature, industrial washing (30 cycles), dry cleaning (30 cycles), rain resistance and flame resistance

Labelling:

A high visibility garment is marked with a label showing a pictogram and the performance levels. The first number X next to the pictogram indicates the class of the surface of the background material accordingly to the table above. The second number Y indicates the class of the retro-reflective material accordingly to the requirements defined in the EN471:2003 standard.

The background fabric may be netting or full fabric.

EN4 has two silver stripes around the waist.

EN2 has a single silver stripe around the waist.

Cleaning & Maintenance:

40°C warm wash.

Do not bleach

Do not tumble dry

Wash separately

Warm iron

Do not tumble dry

Do not iron the retro-reflective tape.

General:

The garments are designed to accommodate the basic safety requirements and standards for high visibility clothing. The information contained herein is intended to assist the wearer in the selection of personal protective equipment. Actual conditions of use cannot be directly simulated in a test environment so it is therefore the responsibility of the end user and not the manufacturer or the supplier to determine the suitability for the intended use.

It must be noted that his-visibility clothing is generally made from polyester and will not withstand heat. They will also cause static if worn with other garments containing polyester.

There are hi-visibility garments that are heat resistant and will not cause static. These are a special request.

If EN3 & EN5 are worn with trousers with 2 retro-reflective tape stripes they become class 3.

If EN2, EN4 & EN6 are worn with Hi-Vis trousers with 2 retro-reflective tape stripes, they become class 3.
